Yes and Sen. Jim Bunning who is a Republican thinks we should also reinstate the Draft. All Americans (that can) need to serve and besides Bush has made sure that we have depleted our troops with his Iraq invasion based on a lie. We are running out of troops.

There is not a single shred of evidence that suggests America needs a draft. It is purely political rhetoric.
This was brought up a couple years ago by that fat, racist Congressman, I think he's from NY....can't remember his name..... ANYWAY, it's a scare tactic to try to convince the uneducated masses that the country is in worse shape than it really is, that we're losing the war and that the current president has eroded the military. None of it is true and if asked to back up his comments, he will not. Murtha has proven his disdain for the military by calling them rapists and murderers without a single fact to support his position. Everything Murtha says about our military should be held suspect.

Absolutely not! Why should someone be yanked off the street and forced to fight in a war? There are plenty of volunteers to fill the ranks and do the job. These people made it their choice to go and defend us. Historically there has never been a more professional and competant military than the one we have now. Why let Murtha screw it up.

Murtha may be a former marine but that does not mean that he knows squat about defending the country. What he does know is how to get funds to line up his pockets. I bet this is nothing more than a scam to get the rich to exempt their sons from service. Look at this recent scandal of earmarking a corporation that no one knows what the millions sent are for. Sound far fetched---read my source.

I agree with that idea because the people that supports and make money out of this war need to send their rich kids to die there too. As soon as that happens you see how short the war becomes. Not only that the draft would integrate the very mixed society of this country and make them work as a team. Also it would teach values like Leadership, Honor, Respect, Integrity, Duty, Selfless Service etc to a younger generation who has absolutely no values at all.

Yes indeed. Sadly, the future Cheneys will always get deferrments, but it would be a way to keeep unnecessary wars in check. I am all for compulsary military or civil service.
It would be better to follow Israel's example. Education is provided after military or civil service. Its far better than our GI Bill. As Bush's war drags on, you may find far fewer willing to sign up to be deployed there.
