How do I get wireless internet on my desktop computer? Do i have to buy extra hardware or is it built in?

The above answers are correct for adding wifi to your desktop but once you have it what are you going to connect it into? You still need a "WIRED" internet connection to power your local wireless system OR

you need a 3G card which uses the cellular system to allow connection you then have to subscribe with TMobile, Cingular, etc for connectivity. There are also several "wifi" providers that may cover your area but you will need to subscribe for that service and they usually provide the correct adapter.

You need to buy the wireless card for for desktop. It costs about $70 to $120. But remember, you must choose the right type of your wireless card. If the router is Wireless N, then you must buy the Wireless N card.

You have to purchase a Wireless network card, or a USB wireless network device. No desktops come with built in wireless yet, to the best of my knowledge.
