I use to think the washer or dryer was eating them. LOL
Then... I would discover that as I was putting them into my washer, one would fall beside it or behind it, And before I bought my new washer and dryer, My Washer was in a way eating them, they would go behind the tub of the washer. With Baby socks, I always kept them safe in a pillow sheet, and tied the end of it up, KrZaY little thingys are soooooo easy to lose! ;)
