Hagel said that having a God was a necessity. Marx said it was the opiate of the people.
Both are correct. Religion is very necessary in a persons live. Even thepeople who claim to be atheists use atheism as their from of religion.
With this in mind, we all use religion to form any of opinion and to an extent our morals. So I guess you can say that relgion has its pluses.
But at the same time, it has its minus. Look at all the wars that have been fought and are being fought in the name of religion

I think it's meant to be a good thing, and that it can be a good thing if taught by someone who knows what they're talking about. Religion is a structure, so to speak, kind of like the frame of a house. The structure is supposed to support the possibility for spiritual actualization. And that can happen in any of the world's major religions. But, so many people misunderstand and don't even really know about religions that tons of misinformation is out there being taken as fact. And tons of those incorrect facts and passed around to everybody. I'm not particularly in favor of fundamentalism or evangelicalism, two very popular flavors of the day. I think both are so misused that they lead people into mass hysteria.
The misunderstanding of religion is the bad thing. I think the intent of religions is a good thing.

Its good.
Religion gives us answers of those question which no other science gives us.
Those who don't believe it they have not actually studied it. We can't claim something as a wrong without studying and knowing anything about it.
There is another reason not to believe religion as a good thing is that in Bible and other religious books there are many teachings which have no conformity with the scientific facts because of the man made changes after wards for purposes.
But
Islam is a religion which is totally in confirmation with the scientific facts. Non of its teaching or principles has been proved against established facts so far.

I believe Religion is a good thing. It only makes bad when people questions other's own belief or religion. Thus, conflicting
views results and often times the very purpose of Religion is sometimes depleted. What is vital is to respect each other whatever religion they believe into.

Most of the religions in the world deals with soul and preach what is good for the soul and what is bad for the soul. Religions also speak of the after- life, about rebirth, & existence of God
The question is very general and does not specify the relevance of relligion to the good of body, mind or the spirit.
To the extent religion helps us to live a fuller and more satisfying life , it is good.

The negative things religion brings easily outweighs the positive. Religion is intellectual and philosophical poison. People substitute making an actual difference in the world with clasping their hands together and mumbling a few words, believing it will accomplish the same. The belief in an afterlife is responsible for people flying airplanes into buildings.

I don't think religion should be rated good or bad. I think it is more a matter of whether it works for you and gets you to what you think salvation should be.
Each religion has certain truths. Often these truths overlap between religions. Given everyone wants to be right, this leads to wars and hatred at times. I don't think it is religions fault per se, but the fault of those that interpret religion as permission to do what they want.
Religion can be used to create good or bad. It is what we use it for that labels it.
In my opinion, religion is a method of exercising our faith in a higher power. It provides a pathway to enlightenment or damnation.
It is each individual's choice to determine what religion is to himself. Why curse the pathway versus the person who falls off the path to righteousness.

Depends on the religion. If their god makes them do unnecessary things like kill people, start war, force others to join their religion or be considered enemies. yep those are the bad. The good religions get people into believing that they can do things without the help from others, thinking rationally, and minding their own religion or believing that everybody should be in peace and harmony, that's a good religion. If you ask me I don't believe in god but I believe in myself. I meditate to release stress and I know I don't have to do it but it makes me happy.

well i dont' think religion is a bad thing. Religion is about faith. It doesn't teach people to be bad. In fact religion tells people to do what is good. It teaches people to make a choice. Being bad does not have anything to do with religion. It's the person choosing to do the wrong.

I think religion is a good thing as long as you do not become too religious.... religion serves the purpose of leading us on to spirituality... we must be able to proceed beyond that by rising above the limitations and rituals that any religion adopts to propagate itself.
