I agree with Redhawg in that we "reap what we sow". As my son began to get out on his own and become independent I told him to watch closely those people who continually cry about their luck. People who seem to always have "bad luck" can usually be found to making some very poor choices in life.

You betcha' I do. There is all kinds of opportunity for luck to be a factor. Think about a pinball table. That ball just bounces all over the place. We control some of it, but in the end we always lose because we don't control all of it, right? The pinball machine controls the controls and stacks the physics in its' favor. In life it's not all luck, but it's not all anything else, either. The best laid plans are the best way to go, but the best laid plans can get fouled up by kajillions of other things. You know what they say? You can make plans, but you can't plan the outcome!

well i dont, and i dont gamble. The term lucky/luck is always related with human weaknesses and limitations in controlling things or conditions that he/she wants. It may also emphasize our behavior of easily giving up in a frustrating condition and ends up relying to our luck.My view is that if we do our best to attain a certain goal whatever is it through constant training and practice aiming for perfection and control, then the term luck will simply lost its meaning.
luck is always measured by probability/chance with the maximum even probability of about 50/50(50 lost /50win) but if we go slightly higher like 51/49 and if we win this is not by luck but by uneven probability and same is true in loosing.
we can actually change the leverage by improving our skills, strategy or what ever effort etc. and by using the simplest anti-luck trick, cheating.
I think its more on the control. the more we control things the more lucky we are. The least we control things the more bullshit we become.
but we cant blame earthly humans on their reliance on luck, coz our world is full of unknowns and bullshits that our mind is hesitant to learn or simply really hard to understand and if we cant understand logically it follows we cant control.
knowledge and understanding leads to control, which negates LUCK.

There's a saying "Luck comes to the person who is best prepared". This means that you can't take advantage of lucky situations unless you have worked hard. Luck comes to people with good educations, excellent skills in their areas, good personal relationships. It doesn't come to people sitting on their sofa wishing they could be rich! This is unfortunately the mentality of most people. Then they go gamble and lose all their money because they are just suckers, not the type of people who get anywhere. Even Brittney Spears, et al, worked very hard their whole lives, taking dance, singing and acting classes. I saw on TV that rappers like Dr. Dre and Jay Z went for years to hip hop clubs and sold their CD's out of the trunks of their cars - lots of hard work to get where they are!

There is nothing like luck. Luck meas to get benefit without efforts. You will have to struggle to get. If you get something without efforts its not a luck but it is by chance/accidentally. Chance/accident is different in meanings than we take for luck. It may be for one time or more. If someone is really lucky then he should get always without efforts which is not possible.
The word luck is invented for the two reasons:
1- to justify our mistakes
2- superstition

No, luck is generated by either our actions or those of people/things around us. Just because we have no control over an action does not mean that someone did not have control of the action

so you're playing a game: you toss a fistfull of dice
Karma decides the outcome of your roll?!
Then how come i win some rolls and lose others? Has my karma changed so much from one moment to the next? While we're at it--does free will exist? Or is everything an effect of what has gone before?

Luck is kind of a shaky thing to believe in. Luck is really a combination of preparation and opportunity.
"It seems like the harder you work, the luckier you get."
There *is* one kind of luck I believe in....Beginners' Luck. It happens all the time!

no I don't... there's nothing known as Luck. Everything we obtain is because we've tried for it- of course as long as lottery or sth like that is not concerned :P which we call 'em chance. But it's not a Chance... it's just an event that accidentally came true.
