I dont know, but that ref who threw the flag for pass interference in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl against Miami must have been betting.

Not as high as the chance that other refs for other sports are because of the review system, the structure of the referee's union and their relationship to the NFL, and the popularity and scrutiny that the NFL is under right now.

The NFL is the only pro-league with a camera review system that can replay every single call. And with the time in between plays that the NFL has, every play is replayed for the viewers at home.

The Referee's Union also is not as uncooperative as the referee unions in other sports. They have a good relationship and each knows that integrity in the officiating is very important. The union also does a thorough review of every call from every ref each game and keeps track of blown calls. They will also send letters to the commisioner and the team apologizing for any bad calls and also what disciplinary action, if any, should be taken.

And the NFL and the referees know that with so many people watching the sport right now, that any scandal would be costly. Like I said, each play is shown over and over again between plays. If there are 70,000 people in the stadium watching it plus another 10,000,000 people watching it at home, then it gets replayed on every highlights show after the game for the next week, there is simply no room for error. The spotlight that is on the NFL to maintain its image is very high right now.

There is still a chance that a ref could make a bum call like holding or pass interference that could impact one game, and they might get away with it. But to consistently have an NFL ref involved in points shaving or fixing games would be very difficult.

Slim to none.

NFL referees are subjected to background checks by retired FBI agents that are more in-depth than a Top Secret security clearance. This happens well in advance of their being hired. Specifically, they are looked at for financial stability and any links to gambling.

Every play of every game is evaluated by a team of retired officials. Statistics are fed into a database that is constantly checked for patterns in calls/non-calls. They can be, and some are, not brought back every year if they seem to have biases.

NFL officials must report even traveling to casino to the league office in advance. Gambling on ANY sport is highly frowned upon, even joining the office pool during March Madness. Gambling on football is absolutely forbidden.

I'm with Rick K.... They are betting too. Its a little tougher and can be handled internally because of the replays but it happens.

In my opinion the NBA has been fixed for a while. I used to have season tickets, 10 years I had them... But as I watched I saw that one team might be up by 25 at the half but somehow with 5 mins left in the 4th quarter the game was tied. This did not happen once in a while but every night, every night, in every game. Just watch sports center all the magical comebacks.

That is a very good question and very up with current events. I have no answer other than I like the NFL review because it can deter a lousy official. The basketball thing is just unbelievable and I bet that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm the only one that gave you a star so far. What is the matter with you people? Why are you so stingy-pinche'?

could be as they are part timers. they should be full time employees and there would not be an imp[ropriety. also in off season it is time to drill and review all aspects of the game.
NFL refs are the worst in all sports.

I say slim to none. Too many reviews plus all the game film would get him found out too easily.
