The election system allows the elites to control the Presidency. Although I do not entirely agree with the Socialist article cited below, it makes a good point - the need for millions of dollars for TV commercials and therefore large corporate donations has pushed candidates to pander to the richest Americans (and excluded most middle-class and poor people from even running!)

Third parties have trouble even getting on the ballot in most states. Meanwhile, everyone who gets a political appointment is already pretty rich at the time.

We are only in Iraq at this point to keep protecting the green zone where corporations can make millions from military contracts and oil revenues.

Fundraisers will likely influence the candidate that they supported when already elected as President. So far, Hillary Clinton has the most fundraisers which she inherited from Bill Clinton.
