I'm thinking about old time stuff like Stand By Me. Not adventure films either but more like "way of life" films.

Well a few that come to mind are Homeward Bound, Milo and Otis, and Dances With Wolves. Although I guess those are kind of more adventure, rather than "way of life." You might check out "Mean Creek"... it's pretty crazy and is set in the wilderness. Oh, and one great adventure outdoors movie is "The River Wild," just to throw it out there.

"Jeremiah Johnson" starring Robert Redford, about a fur trapper in Colorado (I think; been quite a while since I saw the movie) around 100 years or so ago. Good movie.

A River Runs through It - lots of fly fishing (though not by JR Hartley!)
