If some govt (or some private group) that has the concept of knighthood decides to knight you, that's their choice.

There is no special status or privileges in the US for being knighted -- the term has no meaning here.

But there are medieval recreation groups that use the status internally, and some other country can always grant you a membership in an order of knighthood. It just has no legal effect anywhere outside that group or other country.

As far as I know a citizen of a country other than the UK can not be knighted. As a knight you are sworn to protect the realm of the UK. As an american citizen you cannot swear to protect another realm!

Only members of Commonwealth countries can get knighted officially.
You may have an honorary knighthood but you wont be a Sir.

At least one of our former Presidents was Knighted so a precedent exist. You can be.

for services to our nation,so yes you could become

it would likely be honorary and carry little if any weight. norman schwartzkopf was honorarily knighted.

i think you should go for it, i think you might have to register for citizenship in the country you want it in, but otherwise youll get it for sure!!!!
