If the question contains a gender stereotype, most likely it's a troll asking the question, but it could also be someone, naive, ignorant or stupid. It's often hard to tell the difference between the two, since most troll questions sound idiotic.

I'd say sexist questions usually start with, "Why do women" or "Why do men" since these questions are obviously gender stereotypical generalizations.

In their questions and answers, sexist trolls usually use their personal experiences as facts, usually stating how evil women are based on their awful marriage, hateful divorce, and loss of their children (thank goodness, since some of them are psycho and stalkers). A couple of trolls quote about 3-4 items from a list of old men's movement rantings that are over 15 years old, quote radical feminists from 40 years ago (often ones who are dead), and quote from feminist books written 40 years ago, that half of us didn't read even then.

Based on how a couple of the trolls threaten women in this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if they are answering questions from a group home, mental institution, or prison. No wonder they hate domestic violence shelters and rape centers, they've probably been the cause of women being sent there to get away from them.

No, I don't think it is a good guide. Some people have begun a question like that and they are not necessarily trolls.
I think it takes a while to know who is or who is not a troll. Some questions can sound trollish, without being really the intention of the poster.

Nevertheless, if anyone stays here a couple of days, the trolls are very clearly recognizable. What has worked for me is to block them and few times I am wrong, as many times those blocked accounts get deleted or multiplied.

Other method to recognize them is to look at their profile, trolls generally have a new account (among several) or /and hide their questions and answers and generally respond to each other.

One big hint, is someone that just opened their account the same day and that already, posts a question with the intent of causing problems.

I hope Yahoo can do something about this. I doubt it, it means money of some sort.

No, that's not it. Many legitimate questions are directed to one sex or the other.
In the case of periods, pregnancies, PMS and such, women are far more likely to have personal experience, and they might be worried about offending the men by asking the question, so direct it to the women.
Others might direct their question towards men because they want a Male perspective on the problem.

It's unfair to generalize such posts as there are valid questions that do come under that category.

Women may not want to have a man providing pregnancy advice nor would a man want a woman providing pointers on prostate health, as an example.

Some one may have a valid question on feminism.

You need to look at the body of the question before you come to such generalizations.

I agree with the statment above. I think the troll questions need to generalise a lot and use outlandish statements to get people attention.

I think its wiser to judge each question on it's own merits.
Better not to generalise and malign a person who has intent for discussion until he/she proves otherwise.
