What if there were life forms that spawned from something every so often, that just never died, ever. They stayed as themselves, for Eternity. and they the thing that makes them, dies after making so many. and then thats that.

cop350zx I kinda like that idea, Although maybe not sand, but a being may spawn from an Object, and whenever the being comes off of it, The object is depleting, until it is gone, yet the lifeforms from it, last forever.

nah roaches die, and only live through radiation at certain points in time in their life, like when they are Not molting, Otherwise if they happen to be molting they will die from radiation, it has to do with cell activity, and what not.

What we know about the universe we live in is insignificant. There is more out there than you and I know. There easily could be lifeforms that last forever, but they just don't want us piddling around with that knowledge.

Because all life forms (on earth anyway) are made from DNA. When each cell goes to reproduce itself to replace damaged cells, or to simply grow, it expends a little bit of protein off the tip of one of the strands. Once this protein runs out, it can no longer reproduce, and the being cannot fix damaged organs or grow, ect. This is why we die, we can lengthen life by aiding the bodies ability to fend off damage, and reduce the frequency our cells need to reproduce, but unless a being can have invulnerable cells, which is impossible, life will always be finite.
Think of this protein as fuel, all work requires fuel, so in order to physically separate on its own it needs to expend fuel. That said, No life forms on earth have the ability to replenish it.
One last thing, the reason scientists will never be able to accomplish this, there are trillions of cells in the human body, there is no way scientists could manually insert protein into over a trillion strands of DNA. However, it is plausible that scientists could find a way to do this to single celled organisms, one day. This maybe the answer you were looking for?

Spiritual life forms do exactly that.
They can even imagine themselves to be physical beings for a while.

Sand is alive, and they live forever.
The rock dies after making so many sand granules.
Unless, you burn them into glass. and then they still move and get wavy over time.
