Sweetheart, there is nothing that you can do to help your mom right now, except for being a kid. She would not want you worrying about her and not to be doing what a kid does. As far as when you go to college you can get scholarships and stuff and also work and send money home. Mabey even go to a college in your home town or close to your town. You could live with your mom, or close to her and help with the rent and stuff. All I can say is keep the heart like you have it.

Most of the answers will see it as a problem that you are 12.You appear from your question to be a perceptive 12 year old.You state in your question that she will need most of the help while you are in college at that point you will be able to get different types of work. You need to look at what your own strengths and talents are and use them to your full advantage. One thing I can say is that you have time on your side .The situation may not be as bad as you percieve it to be at the moment. Have you talked about your concerns with your mom.You could start small jobs babysitting etc and saving that money but your time would be better spent studying and getting the best education you can get .Then you can get a good paying job and improve your moms life and your own. I hope you still feel this need to help your mom when you are older.Right now to make money you could try finding and selling stuff on e-bay

The problem is that you're not old enough to work LEGALLY. That's alot of burden for a 12 year old. I know you want to help her out now financially and you are a great daughter; nevertheless, there's not much you can do. You can try to get her to sign up for food stamps I think. It sounds to me like your mother is forced into retirement due to medical issues? She should be getting social security checks and housing assistance if she retires.

Do you have any other family around that can help? I would also suggest that if rent is too hefty for her to pay after retirement to look into living with more people to share the responsibility of the rent and utility.

The best gift you can give her is finishing school. You can't do that if you are concern wtih working. The first answerer is right that you can babysit but that's not alot of money to support your mom with.

By the way, she does not qualify for welfare if she isn't looking for a job. The welfare program requires that you are actively seeking employment.

Sorry but there is no easy fix here.

At 12 its going to be hard to help by earning money, I would recommend looking for ways to spend less. You can start babysitting soon or doing housecleaning, washing cars that sort of thing to help out by earning your own spending money. there is satisfaction in earning your own things. don't be wasteful and its OK if you don't always have the most expensive brand of anything. I know its hard when everyone else has whatever is popular and you don't but you sound like a bright person who cares about mom. Work hard in school and get good grades, play sports and try to get scholarships to help with college. While retirement sounds great, some people get very bored if they don't work so keep that in mind also.

maybe you guys should look through some government assistance centers. since you mom is almost old enough to retire then she should go to the social security agency and talk to someone about her benefits and what type of government assistance programs she is qualified for. its nice that you want to help your mom, but your mom is the adult and should be the one taking care of you. since you're a minor your father should be paying your mother child support every month (assuming they're divorced). you are old enough to babysit i think, so you could do that to save money and help your mom out. i don't know if your mom is qualifed for welfare, but that's another route you guys to take. focus on school because that is the only way you can help yourself and her in the long run. get good grades and don't forget to apply for financial aide when you are old enough to go to college after high school.

The fact that you are only 12 is a problem; most places won't hire you until you're 14 or 15 at the youngest.

You could babysit, or clean houses, or something like that on the side.

Good luck.

there's not much of a way.
try to get your mom into selling things on ebay, buy something at the thrift store, and sell it on ebay. you never know, you might find a collectible worth thousands sold for 25 cents. probably not, but you always make a profit, and if she can learn to get the right stuff, and how to do it, then she can make a decent amount of money

the problem is you're only 12 years old, no place would give you a job. the only thing you could do is to help her keep the house clean, prepare lunch or dinner.

Nice try but no 12 year old girl is going to call her mother mommy to a bunch of strangers.

Baby you're so young to have such compassion. Get your Mom to consent to an onlin work-at-home job. You won't get rich but it's something she can do while you're in college,
