First of all, it's estimated about 75 - 80% of the WORLD has cold sores. It's more common to have them then to NOT have them!

And, cold sores are not considered a STD because they are not spread by sex like genital herpes is. The most common way of contracting cold sores is by kissing someone who has them. Most children get cold sores from being kissed by relatives when they are real young, like a mother, father, aunt, uncle, grandmother, etc.

So, I don't know why your parents would freak out! It's not like you have a STD. You can always go down to your local pharmacy or grocery store and buy some medication like Abreva or Herpecin-L.

Good luck!

About 80% of people have oral herpes, also known as cold sores. Most people get it as children, not from kissing as they get older.

Not everyone gets sores, but some people do, especially if they are stressed out or are fighting some other infection, like a cold or flu.

There's not much to be done about it- you can get some soothing gel at the drug store (it's cheap and you don't need a prescription). You pretty much just have to wait for the sores to go away.

Edit: in response to some of the previous answerers, cold sores are a form of herpes, but they are not the same type as genital herpes. You can get genital herpes on your mouth, but it is transmitted by skin to skin contact, i.e. oral sex or kissing someone who has contracted herpes from oral sex. If you have not touched your lips to anyone's genitals, it is unlikely that you have genital herpes on your mouth.

My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks. Everywhere I read it says it stops flaring up so much after time, but its not getting less frequent for her. She's been on Antiviral meds the whole time, too. She also has type 1 diabetes which she has had her whole life, which really weakens her immune system. Will it ever get better?

But after a friend share this video everything has changed.

It sounds like a cold sore, which is actually a form of herpes. A previous poster said its not herpes, but thats what a cold sore is. You can get them from kissing someone with them or using someone elses chapstick. They sell products at CVS that help them heal faster, but you will have cold sores for the rest of your life. Not all the time, but you will develop them occasionally throughout your life.

alright relax, my friend has those same two bumps and its not herpes. it's just cold sores that are just there. they usually don't go away, she ended going to the doctor because she thought they were herpes too. she takes medication when they break out. it's no big deal, and you have nothing to worry about, it's not herpes - best of luck -

You may need to see a doctor. Anytime you get a blister on your lips it is a form of herpes. So definitely see a doctor so they can identify your situation.
