I need to know what your experiences have been with finding and safely using roll-in showers. I recently stayed at the Mirage, and, although I had a room with a roll-in shower, I did not feel safe using it because I felt the floor was too slippery.

I would have to say Bellagio or Wynn. I have seen both and their fully accessible rooms are truly top notch!

It might be a bit pricey but they are both not only new but bigger than the average room and all the equipment inside is very well taken care of and meticulously maintained.

I know that the Excalibur has good handicap accessible rooms as does the Venetian. My father had a stroke and has lost some of his mobility so I try to be sure to get him the accessible rooms so that he has plenty of grab bars for the shower. Don't be afraid to call down to the front desk at any time for the situation you described. Housekeeping could have come and recleaned the shower or they could have brought you a mat that wouldn't slip. The Mirage is a nice hotel and I am positive that they would have tried to make the situation right.

I have found that, at least for my Dad who uses a cane and walks very very slowly, most restaurants, buffets, hotels and casinos go out of their way to accomodate his needs. He also gets to go in the special line at the airport.

If the floor was too slippery for you, then it would be worse for an elderly client or one who was physically impaired. You should have notified the Mirage about your concern.

Being handicapped accessible means that it's better for everyone, not for some at the expense of others.
