No! If people don't want to part of the electoral process, they won't bother to learn anything about the candidates and the issues. They'll just vote for whoever runs the most T.V. ads, whoever is good looking, or whoever has a clever slogan.
Maybe we should charge people $10 to vote. That would guarantee that only people who really care about the outcome will participate.

It would be nice, but too hard to impliment without a lot of thought on the part of the government. A lot of people would have difficulty getting to polling places, not to mention those who may be out of the country during voting weeks and such.
Unless they had a phone-in system that registered answers according to social security number.

What difference would it make, wasn't just an election last the was won by whomever arranged it. Eliminate the two party strangle hold on elections and America may return to some resemblance of Constitutional Law.

Too many idiots vote based on nothing but party lines and name recognition already, thats part of the reason we have such an incompetent and corrupt government.
No, its a free county, vote if you want to.

I don't think it should. We would then have too many people going to the polls making uninformed decisions. I don't want those people dilluting MY vote. And besides, like in the song "Freewill" by RUSH, "if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

Nope. Do you realize that if all the rednecks who don't even know how to read and write are able to vote, the Republiscums will be in power forever?

Absolutely not...while the point of a democracy is to give power to the people (even though we're a republic), freedom allows citizens to do as they please.
We have the right to vote, but the freedom to abstain.

no, it shouldn't.
if it were, then this would not be a democracy, it would be an autocracy.
democracy means freedom, including the freedom to be an ignorant jackass, which is what most americans, after all, are.
frankly, i don't think i would want all the millions of apathatic ignorant jackasses to vote. i'd be scared of who they'd vote for.

NO - too few people really understand the issues / candidates - they vote blindly along party lines or choose the incumbent - i think people should be forced to watch the debates - then if they choose to vote at least they'll be somewhat informed.

No. People who are forced to vote make bad choices. In my opinion, voting is a right and obligation, but it should be accepted voluntarily. In countries where voting was made obligatory, bad governments emerged.
