The only thing about cats is that women aren't supposed to change or clean the litter box when they are pregnant. Some kind or chemical or something can harm the unborn child. Just having cats in the home won't cause her to not get pregnant.

When a woman is pregnant she shouldn't clean the litter boxes because the cat may have toxoplasmosis, a parasite, in it's feces which can be transmitted to the woman if she doesn't wash her hands afterwords. If she has to clean the litter box herself then she should wear gloves and wash her hands very thoroughly after doing it.
The reason she has to worry about it is because the parasite may affect the baby in the uterus if the mother contracts it while pregnant. However, this infection can easily be prevented with a little good sense and cleanliness.
There is no reason to give up your cat. There is no way it can prevent your wife from becoming pregnant as it is only a cat not a demon. It doesn't carry any chemicals or diseases that can, in any way, affect your wife's ability to get pregnant. This story about someone not being able to have children because they have cats is nothing but an "old wife's tale". These stories are very popular and a lot of people believe them but that doesn't mean that they are true.
The reason you and your wife can't get pregnant is because there is some problem in one or both of you which is preventing the pregnancy. You both need to go to a doctor and see what is preventing you from having children. I can assure you, however, that blaming the cats won't bring you any closer to becoming parents.

No having a cat will not cause a woman to be infertile, yet some cat's feces may contain a single celled organism called toxoplasma gondi ( not a chemical or germ) that can effect a fetus, so women that are pregnant or trying to conceive should not change the litter box. I have provided a link with more info on" toxo".

Best of luck to you and your wife on making a baby.

No, the only thing about a cat that may be harmful to a pregnant woman is the cat's poo. It can contain the bacteria toxoplasmosis which can be harmful to a developing baby. But no, cats do not make women infertile. Whoever told you this was confusing this with women being unable to scoop a litterbox while pregnant.

You spelling is fine. I'm not a doctor, but I know this is not true.
Cats can carry toxoplasmosis. These are a risk to pregnant women, but have nothing to do with not becoming pregnant.
Here's what happens. Cats can carry toxoplasmosis in their feces. When adults are exposed to this for the first time, they notice almost nothing as far as being sick. But the exposure causes them to become immune to it.
An adult woman who is immune to toxoplasmosis, will be fine, she will pass the immunity to her unborn baby. However, if there is an adult woman who has never been exposed (and is therefore not immune) and she becomes exposed for the first time during pregnancy, that can cause problems with the baby. This is why pregnant women are told to not change the litter box.
If your cats carry this toxin, your wife has been exposed to it and is immune. I have never heard that cats will prevent pregnancy. Good luck.

No, cats do not prevent pregnancy.
A woman who is pregnant should not handle the cat litter box. Someone else should empty it for her because it could contain a germ which is harmful to baby's health. I hope you can go to a doctor to find out about help getting pregnant.

no that is not true there is a virus she could get from the cats if she changes the litter box or has contact with there feces or urine that will cause her problems if she was ALREADY pregnant. but since she has had the cats for so long she has probably already gotten it and is now immune to it. so you take litter box duty (my hubby hates that part) just in case.

Women who are pregnant aren't supposed to handle cat litter, as there is a parasitic disease that can harm the unborn child (toxoplasmosis). Other than that, it's just a superstition.
