Yes, it is disturbing to see CEOs get salaries that are not based upon performance of the company. It is quick way for me to sell stock in the corporation when the corporation earnings are down and the CEO still gets a big bonus, or they are fired with big exit payments.
Even if a corporation is making billions, it doe not make sense to pay a CEO over 1000 times than the workers.
Exxon's CEO paid a 1.5 billion, not million, but billion bonus.
Just not acceptable to me.

I disagree that it's a disturbing trend in the first place. The job of the CEO is getting harder and harder with globalization, increased lawsuit liability, and the fast pace of business. The market seems to be happy paying these people their salaries, so I say we should stop complaining about it.

However, I do think CEOs should take into consideration the factors of their pay as seen from the point of view of their employees. It's bad business to give yourself a pay raise while asking your employees to take a pay cut. Will your pay raise make a different in the grand scheme of things? Probably not. But it will hurt morale if you get a raise and your workers get a pay cut.

But back to your question, no, it's not really a disturbing trend. If you think it's a problem, convince the free market it's a problem and the market will fix the problem.

At least they are being more upfront about it now. They used to get so many perks that didn't show up as compensation on the Annual Reports. Now at least everyone knows.

You are correct though, this is getting ridiculous.
