I am using my cell phone as a dial up modem. As I move around my house, my laptop loses reception from my wireless router, so I connect to the internet with my cell phone as a modem. However, when both are connected, I have to disconnect my dial up connection because when both wi-fi and dial up connected, the internet is only as fast as the dial up.

Very simple, you can only have ONE active internet connection at a time!

There simply is no way to have BOTH active simultaniously the computer wouldn't know which one to use for what.

I am not sure if this is your case but normally you need to change your network settings to change from dialup to dsl because you may be using your cell phone as a dial up conection, but not for DSL, it requires the ISP's Modem, in addition to software, You cannot run them both at the same time.
