People are much more likely to break the law when they're anonymous. The great big sign with the speed flashing on it deters 99.9% of drivers from speeding. The problem is that they slow down for a real short time and most will speed right back up again.

It's more of an "In Your Face" kind of thing. It's letting you know that you are speeding and if there was a cop there, you'd be getting a ticket right now. It's supposed to make you think. But yeah, you're right, cops are to lazy to be out there writing tickets and they can't afford to be everywhere so they put those things up where they know they can't be. I go faster just to have fun with it. If the cops were smart, they'd put camera's on the signs and charge you over the mail but they can't afford that either. But when it comes to coffee, their always room in the budget for coffee.

Actually in a lot of cases it does because the lighted numbers draw attention and then the driver looks for the nearest speed limit sign to see if he/she is over or under the limit.
There is, however, people like you who don't really care about much of anything, so it is a waste for you.

It's so you can set your "official" personal record for speed. I drive past those things 6 or 8 times trying to get a few mph faster each time. The ones in curvy roads are the most challenging!

Those signs are there because the police and emergency services in your area LOVE you and just want you to know how fast you're going in case you weren't paying attention. They put them there so you know to slow down so they can meet you in person instead of having to scoop you off the ground and put you in an ambulance or body bag.
Remember: Speeding gets you nowhere fast!

Yeah to try to deter people from speeding. Some around here have high speed cameras on the top that clock your speed, snap your license tag number and the next thing you know you have a speeding ticket in the mail......It happened to me and I was pretty irked.

You must live in a very poor neighborhood where the majority of the vehicles driving down that road are hunks of junk with malfunctioning speedometers!
We don't have any of those "YOUR SPEED IS" signs set up in my fine neighborhood! I did see something about them on the news. Where is it exactly that you live?

They're to bring your speed to your attention. Just a reminder. (I wonder if those would clock how fast you could throw a ball.) Anybody here know???

the primary purpose is to save you the trouble of looking stupid when the officer is writing up your ticket.
