No you are not the only one. People have different tastes in reading material. Some of us love the Harry Potter series. Some don't see what the big deal is. Just like food. Some people love pizza. Others don't. It's a matter of personal taste.

No, you are far from alone. I can't get into the Harry Potter craze, at least from the perspective of the actual content of the books.

I've read fantasy for 35 years and these volumes are much more derivative than remarkable.
("Billy Bunter with broomsticks" was a very accurate review of the first two novels)

That it has sparked an interest in reading in so many is a very good thing.
But beyond a certain point a craze is self-fuelling: it doesn't have to have a reason behind it.

If fans are ecstatic about Harry Potter, they should die of pleasure reading some good fantasy. Unless their palate has been spoiled.

I am so sick and tired of it. You are not the only one. I want to answer intelligent questions about a variety of books- not just Harry Potter! It's become an obsession. I don't get it at ALL.

No you're not.
There's nothing great about it except that Rowling has a talent for stopping her books in exactly the right spots. As far as content and style it's nothing that the world hasn't seen a hundred times before. Good, naive wizard hero saves the whole world from some super evil baddie.
Although, it has gotten people reading and that is never a bad thing.

I don't think you can ever be too old for fairy tales. You can be too jaded. But not too old. My dad turns 70 this year and he is a huge fan just like me! I am 29. I don't think you can ever have too many stories in the world where good triumphs over evil.

In the real world, evil wins more than it should. So I jump at the chance to escape this world of hostility and hate to a place where good actually has a fighting chance.

I feel really sorry for those of you that couldn't get into the series. You really missed out!

I don't like Harry Potter either. I find it a bit annoying how so many people can care about it when it's actually pretty lame.

Have you actually read the books, or is this just a random question? You really didn't give much info to go off of.

Whats so great is it made people actually read.
Most of my friends saw the movie and wanted to borrow my books.
That and JK Rowling writes so well she molds everything together and its just addictive to most people.
I'm sorry you don't understand whats so great about it, in my opinion you are truly missing out.
