While art is generally of the 'spirit/soul' it can be 'taught' ... not the 'spiritual' part, but the techniques, the ways color is used, perspective, and even medium ... the majority of the 'art' still comes from INSIDE the artist ... the teacher can only teach the artist how to 'do the work' and not the 'subject' of the art.

It depends on the level of creativity to which you refer. Of course "art" can be taught. Whether or not it can be "learned" should be the question. An artist can teach style and technique or show a beginner various medium to work with and ways to translate their talent.
Who can learn this? Now that's the question we should be asking. Not everyone has the talent or the creativity to be an artist. They can learn the method but not the genius. I can play guitar but have never been able to make the music. It sounds like I'm going through the motions. Whereas give me a brush or pencil and canvas... yeah, that I can do.
Matter of fact, I think most artists excel when they have a mentor. Someone to nudge them along and help to hone their skill. I know many of the Masters had protege's many of whom went on to their own success.
Musicians especially seem able to learn from their mentors. I don't know any great musicians who won't say, I learned from so and so... or this person inspired them etc.

Yeah, it can be definitely be taught and even learned to an extent depending on the pupil of course.

Personally, I believe being an artist is a gift; not something that can be taught. One can be taught mediums of of art, but the creativity is that which belongs to an individual.

If it could be taught, then everyone would be artists. I am a musician and I was not taught to be so. It was an inherent ability and not something that someone taught me.

Art can not be taught but rather the art teacher can open the minds to possibilies they did not know were possible? I would think that was more likely.

Kris is right, but I don't believe that it is the human soul or spirit, But I believe it allows an individual to portray thoughts from their Own mind and world that they create within themselves.

the teacher merely shows them how to accurately portray what comes from the student's mind, Not make them portray the teachers ideals.
