Orwell's "1984" is the most eye-opening book regarding government, period...
Vonnegut's "Breakfast of Champions" and Kundera's "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" both gave me pretty strong philosophical/social insights, I recommend both very highly...

I have to say Harry Potter books. I've realized from reading them that life is too short and you have to put yourself out there and take chances or nothing is ever going to happen to you.

Iyanla Vanzant- 'In The Meantime'. That book was so phenomenal-it made me cry. It was just what I needed to hear at that time in my life. The basic philosophy of what she's saying is that whatever bad we are going through in our lives at the moment is our 'meantime'...the hurdle we need to get over in order to reap the benefits of the full potential of our greatness and purpose in life. I also appreciated that although you can tell she's a spiritual woman, she kept it non-denominational....

"The Giver" really made me think about life differently. Just having to imagine life being the way it was in the book made me appreciate my life.

"Beyond good and evil" by Nietzsche, translation by Kaufman.
I began to see existence in another light, not necessarily black and white, but through perspectivism.
When one denies one's own moral perceptions and views, it is opposing the very nature of oneself.
Also, to question organized thought processes and their influence on society.
That we evolve by learning from all things and at the same time, remaining true to the self.
