A man in our local news was arrested for Hanging his dog till dead by the neck in his garage. The news didn't say why he did this awful thing! I am trying not to think about it.

Think about doing something NICE for that poor Animal...- like donating a few $$$s to an Animal Shelter, or giving a pet a good home... -Sometimes the BEST way to "forget" something, is to do something in "Memory" of it... :)

I don't know any way to stop thinking about it other than to find something else to think about.

People do some pretty bad stuff. I work with news on an almost daily basis and I see things that are done to humans that are more disturbing to me than that. I just don't dwell on them when I get off work.

Things that disturb me more than the hanging of a dog, which I admit is pretty bad, are murders or abuse or exploitation of children.

And there is plenty of that going around. I just try not to fixate on these bad things when I don't have to think, write or read these stories aloud on the radio.

You are still thinking about it because it is a disturbing story and it is hard to think about people being that cruel to a helpless animal. I agree with the other postings that it can be helpful to do something nice as a "replacement" for the bad memory. Sometimes when I have something gnawing at me I find it helpful to set a timer for 15 minutes and just write how I feel about the situation for the whole time. It's just a stream of consciousness writing. A chance to write from your gut. A chance to release whatever you are feeling about the situation - so you can start to move on. Good Luck to you!

I can understand why you are having a hard time with this. You will be able to forget it in time. Whenever you find yourself thinking about it try seeing a stop sign in your minds eye. Say stop in your thoughts. I also think it would be a good thing to donate to a shelter in that poor dog's memory.

well, guess that just means your a caring individual, and the person you wrote about, obviously isn't....
I know there are some things in the news that could just haunt you all day...I think it's because we can't DO anything about it, and that is also frustrating. We can't let it consume us or the "rotten" people win.....like the other person wrote, do something fun to take your mind off of it. If you can't at this moment....Write stuff down when it bothers you. That way you get it off your chest...Like a "Thoughts" journal.....Sadly, with the news today, one could write in it everyday........

I agree with the post above. Do something in memory of that animal. Strengthen the organizations which stop things like this.
