to get a male charmander, you need to answer questions with "hardy" as the bonus - however, since you can't see the types, it makes it rather hard. there are only four questions that have bonuses for hardy personality types. check my source link

try different personalities. mine ended up as a pikachu, but keep resetting the game until you get it.
