I live in Florida and im very passionate about acting. i've been trying to get into the acting business for awhile now but as we all know its very hard. So does anyone have any good advice as to ways that i can help myself get into the business? Also do you have any good recommendations for acting agents? Another idea i also had was going to an disney casting call. Many people get their break from disney so i thought that would be a good thing to try but where do you get the information about disney casting calls?
So if anyone has any good advice to give me on helping me pursue my dreams and goals i would deeply appreciate it.
Thanks :)

Hi,

The first thing I would recommend is that you get good training. You might be able to get an agent, but you also want to be able to keep him/her and get sent out on lot of auditions.

I answer questions like this a lot and so instead of writing the same or similar answers over and over again, I have created a 28-page ebooklet that answers pretty thoroughly the part of your question that you didn't ask, but should have.
Just go to http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acs-blog.html , sign in on the right side of the page and you can download it for free. It's called: What It Takes To Become An Actor.

The second resource you'll want to look at that really answers your question as you asked it is: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html . It takes you through a process that I used to get two agents and a personal manager in a short period of time.

Just remember that getting an agent will most probably not answer all your prayers. You still have to do your share. Remember that the agent only gets 10% of the take, so in my opinion, a good attitude to have is that YOU have to do 90% of the work to make sure you get seen. If it turns out that your agent is getting you a lot of auditions, then great, but don't count on it. And that, my friend, is why I answered the first part of this question the way I did. You need a lot of other things if you are in this for the long haul!

Hope this helps!

My only recommendation for acting agents is, take me on as a client. Only kidding. Yes, as someone else suggested, move to one of the big cities and audition for a good acting school, that's one of the only ways an agent will ever notice you. Alternatively, you could stay in Florida and develop your craft. There must be some amateur theatre groups there. Good luck, and work hard. You need both. Oh, and talent.

The acting industry is located in New York City and Los Angeles, NOT Florida!

Perform, perform, perform! Book as many acting roles as you can and invite Talents Agents to see the production in which you are appearing. (leave 2 comps for the Agents, so they don't have to pay to see your performance.)

You are not going to get on the Disney channel living in Florida. Think about another career. Acting is extremely difficult and most of the actors end up as waiters not actors.

The best agents are pretty selective. Good luck in Florida, a cultural "no man's land"! You'll need to move to New York City or LA. (unless you'd like to play Minnie Mouse for the rest of your life.)
