Yes, a representative republic it is. Why do these crazies keep calling it a democracy. Anyway the ofays stacked the deck against us. they present candidates who must be elite due to the enormous amounts of money that they must raise in order to win. Then the ofays that run are nothing like me or you. They talk all political all the time, they beat around the bush. they won't even make a statement until they know what other people will say. these are not leaders, they are followers. Don't mistake me, I do not advocate a brash fool that wrongly jumps to conclusions and such, but what about strongly principled women and men who are WISE. Who in government can be described as wise. I think adjectives like shifty, sneaky, slimy, or deceptive come to mind 1000 times more often than wise when describing politicians in this country. How do you feel about that?

The United States is a republic. We elect representatives who make our public policy decisions for us.

A democracy would require all eligible citizens to votes on all law and policy matters. The forefathers realized that this form of government would be better suited for a polity that is not a relatively small city with a homogeneous culture as in ancient Athens, Greece.

It is a misnomer to refer to the US as a democracy since it is ruled by representatives we elect.

The U.S. is not a true democracy. In a true democracy every person would vote on every issue. We have a representative government. We vote for people that we think will most likely vote the way we would. That is why their are lobbyists, they petition our representatives to vote for what is in their clients' best interests. Democracy is a term that is used rather loosely when describing the U.S. government.

the US was never a democracy in the first place. It has always been a republic. This idea however was not created by liberals as the gentelman above me seems to think.

We still have free speech, but we are letting capitalism occupy our democracy and pretty much smother the middle class and the poor.

representative democracy

you vote for people who vote the way you want on the issues

It's probably better this way, it would be hard to run a country with the populace having to take time to research and vote on everything in addition to living their normal lives.

That is a misnomer created by liberals, and the media. The US was not created as a "democracy", it was created as a "Republic". There is a big difference.
