You first highlight all the lines for your part in the play. Then you read through the play with another piece of paper on top of the script. Try to remember your lines as you follow through. If you miss a line, it is best to repeat the particular line to yourself (and the cue) 3 times, then start the whole thing over again. It may seem annoying, but it seriously works... I learned the lines for the killer in "And Then There Were None" in one day.

What worked for me--

First know the story.

Know the line that come right before and right after yours.

When you reherse your lines, just do one line at a time. Or half a line, what ever you can do. Just memorize it one piece at a time. Once you have the first line down, Add a few words from the next line and keep going from there.

It takes time. Start the moment you get your part.

Once you get the lines down, it is easier to get the character.

Good luck

Joe
