murder is against the law because it is considered immoral by most people. however, i'm sure there are some people who would not have any problem with making murder legal (i mean, just because something is legal, doesn't mean everyone is gonna go around doing it), but just because it's not a problem with those people doesn't mean the law is gonna change.
so, why is abortion not illegal? a lot of people consider it is just as immoral, if not more-so, as murder.
what do you think about this?
if you think that morals aren't the only reason for murder being illegal, then just point out what is and i'll take that into consideration.

i'm not saying i'm for or against abortion, and i'm not saying that abortion is murder. i'm just asking why why morals matter only some of the time?

Morality is the foundation for every law -- EVERY LAW (probate, civil, criminal, etc.).
Morality defined, in a societal context, is society's perception of right and wrong, regardless the issue. Hence, it is impossible for society to exist without imposing morality.
The respondent who said laws against abortion is fascism doesn't understand fascism. Every law restricts "liberty" to one degree or another and in a democratic society, the majority rules.
Pro-choice advocates claim constitutional protection against the majority, but that question is ultimately decided in the public arena and how judges interpret the law.
Bottom line: If enough people oppose abortion, they have every democratic right to legislate that opposition; and if enough Americans oppose that movement, they have every right to vote otherwise.

That is so hypocritical and is disgusting to me. How the hell can you deny someone an abortion when you have one? If you think it's murder then WHY DO IT? And for those who oppose abortion - let other women have the choice to do it. YOU don't have to have one. Although apparently some anti-choice people do it anyway. Most people do NOT use it as a form of birth control, they do it because it's their only option. Most people think long and hard about having an abortion and don't make the decision lightly.

morals are not the only reason for murder being illegal. people who kill are a danger to society because we all have the legal right to justice murder is illegal. to kill is a crime. abortion is not illegal because it is a moral issue, in my opinion the government should not control a woman's body. people don't serve time in jail because of their " moral mistakes" they serve time because they committed a crime against the people. abortion is not a crime against the people. if a woman cannot be prosecuted for having an abortion then why would you even compare it to murdering a person. according to law, abortion is not murder. to kill is to imply that the fetus is a person, however at the time abortions are performed the fetus has yet to form into what is recognized as a person.

I don't like abortion. It's very crude if nothing else. But I am one person in a community so I have to go along. But if I wanted to I could make propaganda against abortion. So why don't I? It is not as simple as that. Most people who are active anti abortionist shout ' right to life'. But when the Government wants to spend money to support mother and child they vote against it. And they are very comfortable with a person who has killed a Dr who does abortions. And why are they against the ' morning after ' pill? What gives? As soon as a child is born, conceived in rape by a moron they forget about it. Go to an anti abortionist meeting and ask people to sign a list they have to support or adopt an unwanted child. Wear a bullet proof vest.

There are a lot of places that Abortion is illegal. In Australia it is still illegal unless a medical doctor says that the baby or mother will suffer because of it's birth ( this may differ from state to state). I think in Ireland abortion is still illegal.
Euthanasia is illegal and there are always heated debates about this. I think that murder is committed in cold blood but "mercy killings" like euthanasia and some abortions are morally correct, some people live in so much pain and we wouldn't let animals live like that.

Abortion is not legally "murder." Even if you can prove that the fetus is a human being at the moment of conception (which *legally* you cannot, since it starts out as a cluster of cells w/o brain capabilities), the killing of it would be considered "killing," not "murder."
The problem with making abortion illegal is, it takes away a woman's right to do with her body what she feels she must. It's not JUST her body, once she's pregnant, but it IS her body, and she's generally got 15+ years of seniority on the fetus, so you can say it is PRIMARILY her body. Pregnancy isn't just uncomfortable, it's dangerous.
Do whatever you can to inform, to persuade, to educate. Try your damndest to get the women to change their minds, if you like. Set up a positive, healthy program to pay the medical bills for the pregancy if the child's given up for adoption. Heck, come up with an invention that can remove the fetus safely and implant it into an incubator of some sort. But once you say "You have no right to decide," then we're moving into the arena of fascism.

The law should really only be based on two things: 1) Morality (ensuring freedom) and 2) Utility (ensuring productivity of government and society. Number one should always come first.
That is why abortion should be illegal. It deprives the unborn of the freedom they are guaranteed by the constitution.

I think you need to consider the flip side of both. If you let a murder live, they'll continue to cause pain, etc. If you let the fetus live, what kind of life will that child have? Probably not a good one...

I know a man who volunteer's at a prison helping inmate's get through their addiction's. He is a pastor who has knowledge, compassion and, a heart of gold. One day, when we were fishing...he told me he was a child of a rape. He said..he was happy to be ALIVE and, was glad his mother was unselfish and, didn't blame him for the incident. He said she was the most self-less person he ever saw and, thanked her and, God that he had the privilege to live and, that we should all be happy to be alive any which way we can.
