I have heard that you should only run one because they can interfere with each other. So which one should I use? Thanks.

I wouldn't use either to be honest... McAfee is a resource hog and AVG is only reasonably good although it is free!

I use nod32 (www.nod32.com) which is much better than both of these...

I hang my head in shame that people are actually recommending McAfee and Norton! They are two awful products that will slow your computer to a crawl.

For the record, Norton is slow because it's badly written. NOD32 is officially a much better virus checker.

People seem to have such a poor understanding of computer security and seem to be reassured by constant pop-ups telling them that their computer is safe. The level of ignorance is shocking...

Talk about "level of ignorance is shocking" and "poor understanding of security". Sbelial and that IT specialist falls in that category as well. Stay away from rankings and lists. They are very misleading and biased. There are lots of lists out there. Norton is good and one of the best, but only if you get it the Norton Systemworks software. that's the only good software protection from norton. I recommend it.
Now on to your question mcafee is better than antivir. However mcafee is not that great itself.
Off the question, I'll tell you of of the best out there, hands down, this Elite software blows the others away.
Spysweeper is the way to go.
The best software you should get is Spysweeper with Anti-virus, this software is too good and gets better everyday. This is ELITE software. It blocks over 181,500 threats. No other software can compete with that or come close for that matter. It catches everything and has active shields. I've used them all and it is 2nd to none.
Don't waste your time with AVG, spybot, ad aware, CA, spyhunter, mcafee, superantispyware, avast, panda, kaspersky, windows defender or anything of the sort. Stay away from anything that is FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they are free. They are NOT good. I even guaranDAMNtee my answers and will help through IM if needed.

As far i say BitDefender is the best
An example i say is all antivirus software while downloading any file from internet only after 100% they will scan the file that when we start that downloaded file

But BitDefender scans the file while downloading
Even if 30% or 5% completed if it has viruses it will report and stop the download

Thats why i say BitDefener But as far i know McAfee and Antivir are worser even than AVG free

Both are good, McAfee and Smantec's Norton Internet Security Suites.
Which ever you choose 2 things to remember.
When you decide to renew either make sure you find out if you need to UnInstall the older version before you upgrade to the newer one the following year.
Be aware as well that McAfee is using India for support as are just about everyone else.
Don't forget that many Internet Service Providers are furnishing Internet Security Suites to there customers for using there service. They are very good and very stable and Free to those who use them as a provider.

If you have a subscription then mcafee is way better for the fact you get 24/7 support. If not id still go with mcafee but its your call. and yes dont run 2 antivirus programs with eachother they will find eachother as viruses and not perform well at all.

AVG free edition is by far the best antivirus program. Download it for free at download.com. I personally don't like McAfee. Always have had problems with customer service.

The best is Kaspersky. AVG is horrible. It lets 1 out of five viruses in, and has a high amount of false positives, now to answer your question, I would say antivir. It has better detection rates, it's lighter, and its free. And remember DO NOT GET AVG.

Neither.

Link goes to an independent review of AV in 2006.

Winner: Nod32

I've had experience with many different AV suites. I've been on-line for 12 years and have tried most. Norton Internet Security is by far and away the best I've ever seen. It's slow because it is thorough. I've had many attacks on my systems and it's caught and destroyed every one without a hiccup. I am invisible to on-line attacks and websites don't stand a chance of "reading my mail". Costs $60 a year and worth every cent.
