If i have a MacBook, will i be able to download programs (adobe reader, etc) from websites such as downloan.com? Or would MacBook probihit users to use those programs/softwares?

I am looking forward to buying a MacBook for the most basic usage. internet, microsoft office (for mac), music, movies...that's all i can think of...once in awhile, rarely, i will purchase some software for educational purposes...is that true that nowadays many softwares are compatible with MAC?

Anything else i should be aware of when making a decision whether to buy a Mac or Windows?

You'll be pleased to find that all the major apps are available for the Mac, usually for the same price as the Windows versions.

The Mac has a built-in basic PDF viewer. But if you want the functionality (and bloat) of Adobe's product, you can get that from the adobe.com website for free.

If there's some app that only comes for Windows, you can simply install Windows XP or Vista on the Mac using it's free Boot Camp software. Then boot into Windows when you need to run that particular app. Or get Parallels ($80) and be able to run both Windows and Mac OS at the same time.

About the only thing you'll definitely need is MS Office for Mac. If you can get it at the educationaly price, it's pretty inexpensive. The newest version, which will be compatible with Office 2007 for Windows, will be coming out later this year.

You'll be much happier if your Mac has at least 1GB of RAM. 2GB would be better. Many third-party places sell Mac memory. Check dealram.com for the best prices.

Oh Yeah i just got a Mac and they have everything for it. Mac is way better then Windows Vista or Xp. It runs up to 5 Times faster then Windows! Download.com has a mac section and they also have free office software that is better then Microsoft Office for Mac. My macbook has never crashed on me and runs perfect. Apple computers are perfect and they offer awesome support! You will love Apple! Apple will take over Microsoft by next year by the rate their going!

you CAN download from anywhere that has mac downloads. mac does NOT prohibit any download sites or downloads. that's all at your discretion. some software IS compatible with both OS's but Mac has a lot more intuitive titles out there that do the same basic functions more efficiently. If you want a computer for basic usage just get a PC, they're cheaper. If you're worried about viruses and security, get a mac.

If you check you will find that the newest Macbookcore Duo's will have both Windows Vista, as well as Mac's OSX 10.4
I suggest you either go to Apple's Web site and see what is available.
