A computer circuit board has an area of 62. square inches. What is its area in square centimeters?


A cylinder has a radius of 5 inches and a height of 24 inches. What is the volume of the cylinder in cubic decimeters?


A carpet is being sold for $26.90 per square yard. What is the cost per square meter?


A computer hard disk can record 95. kilobytes of information per second. How many minutes will it take to record a digitalized piece of music occupying 2.2 megabytes?

1 inch = 2.54cm
62 square inches = 62*(2.54)^2 = 400cm^2

#1: there are 2.54 centimeters in an inch so i think this is what you do...

62 x 2.54 = 157.48

I'm not 100% sure cause that seemed to easy, but its a guess...


#2 You find the volume of a cylinder by (PI)(Radius Squared)(Height). So,

(PI)(25)(24) = PI x 600

Thats as far as i can get cause i dont' have the PI button on the calculator on my computer and i'm not sure where my calcultor is.

#3 We know that there are 39.37008 Inches in a meter and that there are 36 inches in a yard. so you would change $26.90 into a regular number, 2690 and then divide by 36 to figure out how much the carpet is being sold for per square inch. So...

2690/36 = 74.7222222

To figure out how much that equals in dollars, you would just move the decimal point forward 2 places to turn it back into a monetary number. ~.7472 cents is how much the carpet is per inch. you would then multiply 39.37008 by .7472.

39.37008 x .7472 = 29.4173

This means that the carpet is $29.42 per square meter.

again i'm not sure if this one is exactly right because is seemed to easy...

24 in = 6.069 dm

= 2(pi)(1.27)(1.27+6.069)
= 58.56 dm

c) 1 yd = .9144 m
1 sq yd = ()^2 = .836 sq m
($26.90/sq yd)(1 sq yd/.836 sq m) = $32.18

d) 2.2 mb = (aprox) 2,200,000 bytes
95 kb/s = (aprox) 95,000 kb/sec

2,200,000 b / 95,000 kb/sec = 23.16 sec
