The ONLY reason soccer...err um....futbol (did I spell that correctly?)....is so popular in other countries around the world is because it's the ONLY sport that is played in those countries.
In America we have "exciting" pro sports (MLB, NBA, NHL, etc) where they actually score touchdowns, runs, points, baskets, etc. and the game is decided by one team out-scoring the other team.
In Soccer, you have 22 team members with 20 of those dudes or dudettes running up and down a field and the only thing that gets the crowd excited is when the ball gets kicked close to one of the goals...at which point the ball is usually kicked back up the field with everyone running after it again.
Right now with the Posh/David Beckham invasion and the signing of that huge $250 million contract with the Galaxy, soccer is being rammed down America's throats...
Only question is whether or not America will gag trying to swallow it.....

You have a very poor excuse of a source. I'm an American and soccer really DOES count as a sport to me. It's the most popular sport in the world and the facts are, it is the most widely followed, played and watched sport in the world. I'm not close minded like you. Soccer is the best sport in the world and maybe someday, you'll come to realize that and maybe even accept that but I doubt it. No sport like baseball, American football, basketball, hockey, or that pathetic excuse of a sport like nascar will ever measure up to the greatest sport in the world which happens to be soccer. Soccer is the king of all sports. Nothing is going to change that anytime soon if ever.

It counts as sports to the rest of the countries in the world. Dont know why it should be any different to America.
Ah yes, its a game of patience, something Americans dont have.
I am an American, and I am saying that.

Soccer is a primary sport in Mexico (American), an important sport in Canada (American), and very popular in places like Brazil (American), and other South American countries. However, it is only slowly increasing in popularity in the United States of America (American). You DO appreciate that literally 95% of the people in the entire Western Hemisphere are Americans? No, of course you don't! Probably why a lot of our Canadian neighbors think of us as halfwits, amiable but insensitive - on the other han, a lot of our neighbors to the south are actively hostile about our disregard of their being on one of the American continents same as us in the USA are! Reminds me of comments made when Montreal first got the Expos - "Baseball is an American Sport!" Morons think that way, to the detriment of the USA to our neighbors.

Yes it does....
It really depends who you ask.....
In big cities with a huge population of immigrants.....Futbol remains the priority sport for them.....but many Americans who have been here for a generation or so ...are Culturally grown up to follow the other popular sports in this country, Mainly.....Baseball, American Football and Basketball....
I like all the sports and I respect them , my top one being Futbol.....since I have South American blood and have always had a relation to the sport since I was a little kid....
But I follow the NFL, MLB and NBA teams with equal priority to those teams I follow in Futbol.....
I wished people who bash the sport would stop being so close minded ...

Yes it does (I'm American)
if NASCAR is a sport
if Bowling is a sport
if Rock Paper Scissors is a sport
if Chess is a sport
if the Speeling Bee is considered as a sport, why shouldn't soccer
It's non-stop action, 90 minutes of non-stop action if you take away the halftime break
So they don't score alot, it just makes the game more interesting
I like Basketball and football, they are my two favorite sports along with soccer

Look at the public numbers. The MLS is now ahead of most NHL and NBA teams in the markets they're in in terms of attendance. The US-Mexico game last month got higher TV ratings than the Stanley Cup deciding game. In terms of merchandise, the sport is way behind the NFL, MLB, and the NBA. So I suppose it depends on what standard you use to judge it.
It is certainly growing, Beckham will add to that, and it is here to stay, so feel free to hate on it for the next several decades - it's not going anywhere.

Well, judging by your name and picture, it seems that you believe the NBA is quality entertainment, and that pretty much says it all.
I mean, think about the NBA Finals for a second. As unbearable as it must have been for you, a Cav fan, to watch it, it was probably 50-100 times worst for the rest of the world, save San Antonio. That series was far crappier than any nil-nil draw in the history of soccer.

because of the fact we would somewhat no longer take a seat around for a good collectively as and watch a pair of million-5 aims scored. and the 5 became a beneficiant selection. blame tigar woods for golfing being extra customary, he has a great following, baseball is merely Americas previous time so it particularly is a prevalent portion of activities in out u . s .. American soccer is customary for its no longer undemanding hitting and the innovations-set in touch, each and each play is done velocity etc. Nascar is an aquired game which i ensue to love, yet its because of the fact i grew up around it. wish any of this helps.
