I am trying to setup a server on Halo (and Call Of duty 2 would be nice) and i have an Adsl (or a router). I want other people on the internet to be able to join my server. But everytime i start a server, i get my static ip address as the ip address for the server. Is there anyway i can "Re-direct" my dymanic ip adress to my computers static IP address

I'm assuming what you're asking should be this:

"I want to run a server, but my IP address changes. What do I do?"

correct?

IF that's what you're asking - what you want is a dynamic url redirection service. There are two good ones I know of (cjb.net) -which I've personally used and I67.org which I've heard good things about. Check them out in the sources list.

(P.S. these are free - you can actually pay for some better ones if you'd like... I'd guesstimate no more than $20/year)

P.P.S. It turns out cjb.net is not offered anymore! I did, however, find another website with a huge list of them - and they include i67.org...

You can setup your router to log into to your ISP automatically.

Select DHCP so your router will request a dynamic IP address from your ISP.

Most routers have a range of static IP addresses that you can activate and modify up to a point. You have to set your server to one of the static IP addresses within the routers static IP address range.

This way the network on your side of the router has static IP addresses; but, the router requests and receives a dynamic IP address from the ISP.

I have done this many times successfully.

If you do not have the instructions to setup your router, do a google/yahoo search on the model number of the router. You usually do not have to include the manufacturer's name. If you have the manufacture's website, you can go there and search it internally.

Good Luck

You need to forward a port in your router to the static IP of your server. Don't know what brand you have but if you look at the documentation for your router or get on their web site and search for 'port forwarding' and your game you want to play, they will be able to tell you the exact steps to take. Once this is done tell the players your WAN IP address and they can log on to it and the router will forward them to your server. Good Luck.

Set up port forwarding on your router.
