It is called a HOAX. NO one has officially stated that this has been done for any effect what so ever. Anyone who says that they 'hear' things when playing a record backward is only fooling themselves.`

This process has been done as a joke, but all the fabled ones are just a hoax. They only started doing it once the hoax became funny for it's stupidity.
