They are both two different types of vehicles in two totally different catagories so it is hard to say which is best. But I use to work for an automobile club and we had alot of calls with breakdowns for the explorer.

I leased 2 Focuses before my Subaru so my vote is for the Focus! It's an amazing car.

If it makes the noise when the car is stopped, it isn't brakes, axle, or wheel bearings. It could be a motor mount & the engine still wouldn't move from front to back. If the right hand (or left) mount is bad, the engine could drop slightly causing the engine to touch something.
