What is the line between normal and abnormal fetish play?

Classically, I think the line for normal and abnormal is drawn when harm is done. If the activity causes harm to the self or to others, then the behavior is abnormal. However, the definition of harm when sexuality is concerned is vague at best. Does spanking, which causes momentary pain but doesn't cause lasting damage constitue harm? If both participants are willing concenting adults, does bondage constitue harm? I think the line needs to be drawn at permanent harm. I also think that the requirement of harm would be a qualifier as an abnormal behavior as well. With all things, normal is more of a response to sociollogical trends then psychological fact. Look at the last 10 years of the DSMV definition of homosexuality. Every year it gets updated to reflect the current sociollogical trends. It used to be an abnormal behavior. Now, it can be considered abnormal to question your own sexuality. So, a homosexual man who thinks he might be straight could be considered abnormal.

I personnally draw the line at the neccessity for fetish behavior to achieve sexual satisfaction. I don't think that there is anything abnormal about expierementation. However, if bondage and domination (as an example) is required for sexual release, then I think you have passed from normal sexual activity into abnormal activity.

There is no line between two consenting adults that don't mind what's happening.
What are you guilty of? Abnormal behavior would be the usual incest laws, the rules against children and it goes on and on. I'm sure you know the procedure.
As long as no one is getting hurt.

Normal sexual activity is to do it for fun/pleasure. Abnormal would be if it started to effect work, school, and your personal relationships.

If you are asking the question, then it is probably boarding on abnormal.

I believe anything is healthy as long as it is safe and enjoyment is reached. [footnote - it must also be legal, hahahaha)

Abnornal for some individuals (and when it comes to fetishes, that's is probably the majority of people) may be normal for others.

If you are in a relationship, tha line is crossed when the other person is uncomfortable.

When either of you is uncomfortable with what you are doing. Otherwise, have at it.
