The Los Angeles Times reported that nearly half of all foreign militants targeting U.S. troops in Iraq have come from Saudi Arabia – one of Washington's closest allies in the Middle East. U.S. officials have so far refused to publicly criticize Saudi Arabia's role in Iraq, focusing instead on Iran. Why?

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Most foreign fighters and suicide bombers in Iraq come from Saudi Arabia, despite attempts by US officials to portray Syria and Iran as the main culprits of violence, a US newspaper reported Sunday.

Citing an unnamed senior US military officer and Iraqi lawmakers, the Los Angeles Times newspaper said about 45 percent of all foreign militants targeting US troops and Iraqi security forces were from Saudi Arabia, 15 percent from Syria and Lebanon, and 10 percent from North Africa

Those who attempt to discredit the LA Times on this story are the same people who embrace the lies of G.W. Bush. "They have weapons of mass destruction."

Because Iran is in the crosshairs and Saudi Arabia is not -- at least not yet.

i'm no longer a Saudi yet have been right here in Saudi for a protracted time. What you assert isn't real. that's your media enjoying collectively with your harmless and gullible minds. this could be a great u . s . with a good coronary heart. All Arabs are no longer Saudis. as properly, whoever is blowing themselves up are no longer inevitably Saudis, so the question turns into irrelevant. those men blowing themselves up must be from everywhere and whoever, those are pissed off people who choose to eliminate the enemy (US) some how, there u . s . became invaded for no reason in any respect and this could be a trend of combating the mightiest of the armies. Why do no longer you go away and enable them to be. as quickly as you go away the suicides will quit. For God's sake get out and stay at your man or woman beaches.

Good question, the Bush family has ties to the Saudis. I also think the Saudis have something on us that prevents us from bashing them publicly. Half of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi's.

Saudi Arabia is our "ally". Without them, we would be in danger of an oil shortage. Iran is our perceived enemy. So much for "If you aren't with us, you're against us." This is no way to fight terrorism in my opinion anyway. It would be much better to ask each country to root out their own terrorist population in the interest of peace and commerce in the world.

Grimlingts is right. Iran is sponsoring almost overtly. Saudi Arabia does not appear to be doing so.

Miz Farrizet, Iranians are not Arabs and even if most non Middle Easterners do not know that I am sure that our State Department does.

How the h--l do these newspapers know what percentages are from other countries? Did they send their reporters to Iraq to count the insurgents and identify their countries of origin? What a load of H.S.

America wanted to sow confusion on its enemies and it is the reason that they are citing that Saudi insurgents in Iraq are Iranians.

It's the same reason they don't discuss the fact that Osama bin Laden is inaccessible in Pakistan, even as we continue to occupy Afghanistan so he can't set bases up there.

The house of Saud and Gen Musharraf are at least nominally our allies, and we have precious few left. Can't go calling them on their sh*t when you're neck-deep in your own.....

It is my personal opinion that the White House has
more facts and knows a lot more, than the Los Angeles
Times or any other newspaper. The Media make up stuff for
headlines to sell papers, you know.

The MILITANTS may be Saudi (citizens), but privately coming to Jihad - the IRANIAN MILITANTS are being trained and sent by the government of Iran - totally different thing. Or so we suppose. Maybe SA DOES support Osama Bin Laden behind our backs, who really knows? But we KNOW Ah-din-a-schad hates us, and will back insurgents.
