It's all about the $$$. There are a lot of things out there dangerous to our health (trans fats, alcohol, smoking), but people like them because "it feels good" or "it tastes good"... so as long as people buy them, they'll continue to be made.

Then they'd have to stop producing alcohol, automobiles, and everything else that kills us. That's about the time that we'd have to go back to living in caves. It's just not going to happen. There are billions of things in the world that are constantly making us sick, especially with cancer. Why are people only focused on the stupid cigarettes? There's a bigger picture.

My understanding of it is that if the Government did ban smoking, because so many people do it, it would just move the industry underground - and we'll have all sorts of problems.
Atleast with the current systems there are warnings on the packs, taxes on cigarettes making them less attractive financially and restrictions on how old you must be to buy them.

Yes. Also, if they made it illegal, people would still find ways to do it (like weed, etc) because it is so addictive. Then the government couldn't tax it. Also, a lot more people would go to jail or get fined because it's a lot harder to hide just regular smoking. Yeah its just too difficult to make it illegal or to stop producing it (people will find ways)

Depends on what you're smoking......;-)
There is a lot of profit in tobacco sales, so they're going to keep on selling their sh*t as long as people are stupid enough to keep buying it. Alcohol can kill you immediately, if you drink enough of it, and they keep selling it, too. You must also consider that tobacco smoking causes cancer and other serious diseases, and that keeps a lot of doctors employed in the treatment of those diseases, so the economic opportunities generated by tobacco use are too important to justify anti-tobacco programs.

yes, it is about money... and power. If money is the way, power if the result in order to build this kind of order. If you can oppose to them with enough power, you can stop producing tobacco... and damage to health of people.
