My sisters B-Day is coming and my mom wants to get her a cell phone. My sister is very responsible. I got my first cell phone when I was 12. I don’t think she would make us go over are minutes and I have never went over. It’s basically my mom. She is in forth grade and is going to be nine. She has multiple friends that have cell phones and she would like one as well. This could also mean when she goes over to a friend’s house we can monitor her or if she needs help she can call home, mom, dad, or me. Im 16, and I usually pick her up, and I don’t always know were her friends house is so this could help me as well.

some kids get cell phones wen they are in 1rst grade, i got mine
wen i was entering 6th grade. If you think shes ready, you should go for it, does she show signs that she can handle it (not losing it, handling it with care, etc.) if yes, you should give her a
chance.

My youngest son got his first cell phone at about 12. It was because it was practical. We view the cell phone as a tool, not a toy. At the time, he was relying on 3 different people to provide him with transportation. Having a cell phone meant that if somehow communication broke down between drivers, he could always call someone for a ride. Your reasons for her having one sound quite valid, in my opinion (except the one where all of her friends have them, so she wants one too).

There are cell phones for younger kids where the parents can program in the numbers that they are allowed to call and other types of controls. Given her young age, your parents may want to check into this as an option. She could still call her friends, if your parents program the numbers into the phone.

You sound very responsible for 16. Say the same things to your parents that you said here and I bet you'll win the case. Plus, if your sister abuses the privilege of a cell phone, your parents can always take it away. You are a good brother for looking out after your little sister. :-)

If you see nothing wrong with it, I don't see why she shouldn't have a cell phone. Age really doesn't matter as much as responsibility. Has she lost any small items recently? If not, she would do fine with one, I bet.
