I had been taking birth control pills for 11 years when I found out I was pregnant with our 4th child. Our other kids were 18, 15, and 12 when our little surprise joined our family. I was not on antibiotics at any time nor was I sick with vomiting during the likely time of conception. I never missed a pill. After being on them for 11 years, taking them at the same time each day was such a normal part of my routine. One of my nurses said she was amazed that I could possibly have gotten pregnant since my ovaries must have shrunken to the size of pinheads after being on the Pill for that many years. Several doctors/nurses said that since I had been on the Pill for so long, that even if I had missed a pill now and then it wouldn't not likely have been enough to get ovulation started again. The Pill is not 100% effective and my doctors could only say that I must just be in that .3% of the population where the Pill just doesn't work despite following all the instructions. One of those little eggs was determined to get out. My husband got a vasectomy after she was born since we didn't want to risk being in that .3% a second time!

I have gotten pregnant twice on the pill. Both times I was taking it faithfully same day every day, didn't miss a pill, wasn't on antibiotics. The only thing I can thunk of why it happened is that both times I was on a version of the mini pill.

Yes - it is possible to get pregnant on the pill without missing a dose. It is 99.9% accurate in preventing pregnancy - not 100% - we have a little one coming along this fall that proves that.

I got pregnant while on the pill. I took it everyday like clockwork.... they're only 99% effective, but maybe I didn't take it exactly on time one day. I don't really remember, to be honest. But, nevertheless, I got pregnant, and am now 27 weeks along with a boy, who's name is Gabriel! Yay! ♥

Your doctor, I would have hoped, when you went on the pill explained to you that even if you take the pill as described, never missing a day, etc. is NOT a 100% prevention against becoming pregnant.

I have known women who were very careful to always take their pills "exactly" as prescribed and become pregnant.

So in short, Yes you can get pregnant even if taking the pill. My suggestion, always use 2 forms of birth-control if you do not want children. It is cruel and mean to bring children into the world that are not wanted and whom deserve a mother and father who will love them and care for them.

Dear Friend, No birth control is 100% effective. You can get support and information at a pregnancy resource center, which you can find by googling optionline, or call 1800afamily. Please take good care of yourself and your baby if you are pregnant. Sincerely, Runner

Yeah, I got pregnant and had TWINS! But I wasn't great about taking it at the same time everyday, it was my own fault.
