When Roger Marris broke the 60 home ruin record held by Ruth in '61 the record books had an asterik next to it because he broke the record in a season that was longer than the one ruth hit in. Should Bond's record have an * next to it if it is found that he use steroids?

No, because even if you assume he took steroids, which i do, i also believe that a high number of the pitchers he was facing were also juiced. I don't like Bonds on a personal level, because to me it seems as if he has no respect for the fans, but that does not take away what he did on the field. He has been an outstanding player and as i said before he performed at this level against pitchers who were juiced. Can you say Gagne? When he first came up as a starter he was a relatively skinny guy with a fastball that topped out at 93 mph. He leaves one fall, comes back the next season as a very large man with a fastball at 97 mph. I'm a Dodger guy, and i still have to admit it looked very fishy.

Everyone is juiced so how can you distinguish between what would be a valid record and what isn't? The HOF is the same thing. For this time period, you just raise the standards for getting in. 400 homers shouldn't do it alone, maybe 500 if they brought an average to the table too.

Everybody hates Bonds cause he's a jerk. I agree, but a record is a record no matter how much of a jerk the guy who owns it is.

I am rooting for him and hope he does break the record. I don't care about baseball history and all that gibberish. No record is sacred and none should be treated as so. No one can say with 100% certainty that Aaron didn't do something to enhance his game. Steroids have been around for a long time and it's possible Aaron may have done them. He says, "no" and we believe him but we don't give Barry the same consideration. And if Aaron was taking greenies or whatever they call them, then he was using something to help him and that gave him an advantage. SO in essence he may have cheated also. Barry will break the record and even if it is determined that he used steroids, you can argue that he was hitting balls of pitchers that used steroids, so it was even. And why doesn't anyone say Clemens has a tainted record. He's 45, doing things that older pitchers don't normally do and he looks bigger than he did 20 years ago. He has probably done steroids and human growth hormones, but no one criticizes him.

Yes. If someone's punished JUST for having a longer season than the original record holder, Bonds should have not one, but TWO astricts next to his name. Although, the time it took him to eclipse 60 HR wasn't far beyond the time it took Ruth to do so, you have to remember that he hit 73 in 2001, and it's not like those last 13 came every day. I would guess it took him around 135 or 140 to hit his 60 HR.

No steroids dont make you hit homeruns. If I juiced today and was given a MLB contract I would still hit zero HRS. Hitting a ball is about eye contact, follow through, bat speed. I don't see what the big deal is. Bonds just got to 755 a bit quicker with some enhancements

As much as I do not care for Barry Bonds, absolutely nothing has been proven to this point. He's innocent until proven guilty. That being said.........

Certainly if it IS proven, something should be done with regard to the record. I'm not even sure an * would be enough.

Bonds is the most over-rated player in history. And it's taken him ALOT more games to reach his record.

Maris never had an asterisk; that's a sportswriter myth. You don't have to continue believing it.

The asterisk is SO worn out. Bonds deserves something better, like an ampersand, virgule, dagger, or caret.
