Of course you can apply to college or university..
The only reason to go to community college is if your high school grades are so low that you can't get in college, or money is an over-riding issue since CC is usually cheaper than college.

You can go straight to a university or college of your choice; however if you are able to attend a CC for the first two years (you are only taking basic core courses) then you can save money and transfer to the school you want. Many students who go to a CC do so to save money or simply because they are not sure what they want to major in...I am a professor at a CC and at a University....I see both sides of the issue...Good Luck!

attending a community college in the US is not required as a way into a university. you can go directly to the university out of high school if you are accepted. the good thing about attending community college first is that it is MUCH cheaper to go there for your first couple years, taking all of your general education classes before going on to the university for your final 2 years. i attended a university directly out of high school and i really wish i had gone to the community college to save some money.
apply directly to the university to find out if you would be accepted directly out of high school. good grades and a good ACT/SAT score should get you in the door. if your grades are below 2.0 and/or have a low test score you may not be eligible to attend the university of your choice. they would want you to attend a community college first to show you can succeed in college.

If your grades are good enough to be accepted, you can attend a University after HS. If your grades are not good enough, you can attend a CC or Junior College for a couple semesters and then transfer to the University. Be sure to keep your grades up so you can transfer. Good luck!

Well you can go straight to a university with out going to a CC but you have to take the SAT, & ACT plus freshmen are always last priority, so freshmen are picked always last on the list. I went to a CC first even though I had a 4.0 in highschool and found it really rewarding. I didnt pay one cent out of my pocket becuase i got scholarships and even if I didnt its a lot cheaper. College is really expensive now an days. I do admit I was a little embaressed at first but I am glad that I did. Besides first 2 yrs are only general ed and thats what you take in a CC.

A CC is for when you don't have a high ACT/SAT score or GPA. It is also a lot cheaper to go to a CC first then transfer.
The downside most prominent schools don't accept CC transfers.

I've known lots of people who go straight to universitys. community college to me is just people who either can't afford a university or don't have the marks to get into them. (no offense intended for anyone)

yes. most people do. have the required g.p.a and s.a.t score. write an essay if required. and list extracurricular activities. and get teachers recommendations. community college is not a required step to go to a university but it does help since its cheaper.

Nope, just get an application from the college of your choice, some even have them online, and send it in and hope for the best.
Good luck :)
