If there was no demand, there would be no problem. Every person who does drugs in the US is guilty of causing tremendous grief south of the border! Those of you with a conscience should consider that every time you consider using drugs.

I think you have your statistics backwards. Very little is done to stop the drugs at the source, because we are dealing with other countries who have mostly corrupt governments who make tons of money from the drug trade. Most of the money being spent on the so called "war on drugs" is being used to house addicts in jail instead of at least trying to rehabiltate them, which is almost useless as well. I say legalize all but the most dangerous drugs like meth, tax the hell out of it like they do smokers, and use the money to treat the addicts who really want to change.

There are lots of efforts to stop demand. Prosecution for possession of illegal drugs as well as education programs such as DARE. Do you remember Nancy Regan's "Just Say No" campaign in the 80s?

Good idea, lets legalize all drugs then demand will cease to exist since anyone could grow their own or buy it as a prescription.
