First of all it has little collector value. In grade fine it books for .10 It is cataloged as KM# 28.1. For your info the queen of great Britain is also on coins from Canada and other countries that belong to the British Commonwealth of Nations, right now. I have to go along with Robert S. they must have stopped teaching about the world, in U.S. schools. Maybe they are to busy baby sitting. Sorry to be a little nasty here, but it is really a sad state of affairs. Enjoy the coin it is worth more as a geography and history lesson than money.

RE:
I have a coin with Queen Elizabeth the second on the front, and it says Hong Kong on the back.?
It is brass with oriental writing and it says 10cents. I am no history major, but I thought the Queen of England was english or something like that. Is this coin worth anything? And what's up with the history of that? The date is 1959

Before the year 2000, Hong Kong was a province of The United Kingdom. In that year it was handed back over to the People's Republic of China.

I realize you're not a History Major, but if you're in America... I'm saddened by the basic education of the elementary and high schools !!
Hong Kong was a crown colony of the United Kingdom from 1842 until the transfer of sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997... on July 1 as a matter of fact.
I visited Hong Kong 3 times during my time in the US Navy... it is a dime from the old Hong Kong Dollar... it is STILL legal tender, though at the current exchange rate, it is worth about 01 cent US.

Back in the late 18th-early 19th century (if I recall correctly), Britain needed a land base to oversee its Oriental trading. When they first gained control of Hong Kong, it was basically a mosquito-ridden swamp. What China got back was a million times better than what they originally gave away.

Queen Elizabeth II is from UK right???
If I'm right, UK invaded Hong Kong. That's why there's a face of Queen Elizabeth II there at your coin.

Hong Kong until 2000, I believe, was an English colony slash protectorate. as to value, probably not much.
