I have a charcoal portrait that I aquired at a garage sale and want to be able to find out some information about it. It is a portrait of a navial officer, who served on Lake Michigan in WWII, on the USS Wolverine, around the year 1943-45

If you knew when this man served, there are some sites for veterans you could try:
www.militaryphotos.com
www.operationmilitarypride.com
www.vetfriends.com
www.hooah.com

All of these have places where you can upload pictures and ask for help identifying them. It is easiest to upload them first to a photosharing site (www.photobucket.com is good), and then from there. If all else fails, scan it off and send it to me, and add all the info you have. I'll see what I can do (my email address is in my profile).

Scan it, or get a digital picture taken, then use a website that hosts pictures. www.flickr.com is good.

Do you have access to a scanner? If not then go to your local library, they should be able to help you out.
