Do you believe that sometimes we must venture into the darkest rooms of our homes & search certain corners of our unconscious to find this Peace?????

You must begin where you are. If you are merely following the light it's like trying to catch a will o' the wisp. If you are going into the dark and searching in the corners of your unconscious you're likely to end up either confused or frightened, because that's where we hide the things we don't want to deal with. Peace is found in wholeness. It is found by integrating and accepting who you are when you stop long enough to look inside yourself. Meditation is about consciousness rather than unconsciousness. Breathe, focus, look around, become the peace you seek.

Yes. I call it the wilderness within; where one must go alone (though some need help and support). That's why people find the wilderness, whether forest or desert or ocean, can be so confronting, when alone - and few return from it unchanged. I suppose no peace was ever secured without some battle. Buddhism is a way to it, rather than merely a religion. And I think it's what Islam means by Jihad, in its purest sense. But so much is contaminated by those who seek power on the way (the priesthoods of one kind or another) - and that's why one can only make the journey alone. Which is why Buddhists say you must "kill the guru". Travel joyfully!

Sounds beautiful. First I have never heard this said before.
The room may be dark and quiet but if I go inside like in meditation it will be far from peaceful and quiet. Only by focusing on a very simple thought can I get some peace that way. Fortunately my type is slow in the receiving thoughts section, so I have less trouble than most.
Be peace and you won`t have to search for it.

At least to me going into the darkest part of life and bring even a bit of light to it, it will help more to spread the peace that all search for.

the light within you shares the same room where darkness stays...
the inner Peace that we all yearn for is not exclusively from the light..
it's from the integration between the the darkness and the light.
both compliments each other, darkness cant put out the light.
so as blindening light will only force you to close your vision.

and yes the unconscious is an integral part of your inner peace
but not entirely the source of it, it's normally where the unresolved hide away.
and the subconscious is but a peep show...
you need not search from these two for their main role is temporary relief..
inner peace is attained with acceptance with what is apparent..
the conscious mind understands your inner fears..
Learns to build up reinforcement needed to extinguish them..
and letting oneself be vulnerable to walk in the Dark..
with or without light, Faith or Love will always be there to guide you through....
For when there is Faith and Love... Peace always Follow

It's tricky because the mind is so strong. You can only get access to the memories that are locked away in their darkest rooms of our minds when we are ready to let go. Then they can float up to the surface. Probably that's why insights seem to come to us from dreams, from meditation and from activities that require some attention, like gardening, hiking or biking.

I honestly had an answer, but I scanned the answers first, (which I hardly ever do), & after reading Fr.Al, & then enki, I for once find myself speechless. While they write "differently," the message is clear. "Key" words: accepting/acceptance, & reference to the conscious vs the unconscious. I could never come close to their excellence.

To find truth we cannot ignore any truth... so in a sense, to find true light and true peace, we must see the opposite as well.

En la sua volentad en nostra pace
In his will is our peace!
To know his will at times means to know what his will is not.
