Habitat for Humanity is a good thing, but that's about it. Oh, and I like peanuts.

No. I think that when people say Jimmy Carter is a great ex-President, they are inadvertently comparing his ex-Presidency to his actual Presidency, rather than to other ex-Presidents.
I think you'd have to go back to Jefferson, or Adams, or one of the other founding fathers to find a really good ex-President who was a benefit to their country even after they left office. Jimmy Carter is just an incompetent goober who is thankfully less dangerous now than he was when he was implementing policy.

Yes. He certainly ranks among the best ex presidents, especially when he was not very effective as president. Carter holds a special place though because after shaking off defeat in the 1980 election he went to work for many humanitarian causes, spoke up for people who had no voice, and reminded the world of its obligation to the forgotten masses who lived under oppression. IMHO he certainly makes the short list.
Ex presidents hold a special place though: Nixon, for example, redeemed himself somewhat for his misdeeds in the White House by being a senior statesman for presidents of both parties. Freed from partisanship, the elder Bush and Clinton have been very effective at galvanizing the country and the world on issues they need to pay attention to. On the ex-vice presidential front, I think Al Gore is unmatched.

20% interest rates, high unemployment, gas shortages, long gas lines because he wouldn't or couldn't solve the Iranian hostage crisis, stagflation, which we never had b4 or since, failed hostage rescue attempt. He was a nucuelar phd and calmed the nation during three mile island catastrophe. His peace agreement got Anwar Sadat assassinated, and peace is still a long way off. Hil says you don't get do-overs in life, so My guess is he did the best he could, but he scrapes the bottom of the barrel in my book. I voted for him twice. My bad.

there are three things a president can do when confronted with issues- the right thing , the wrong thing, and absolutely nothing- despite the fact that nothing was done the right way - he sat back and did nothing - that way there are some out there that say well at least he never did anything wrong.

As long as "ex" and "history" are the operative words. The good friend of Yassir Arafat called the mass murderer a "powerful human symbol" at his funeral.

Carter is a communist/socialist, he is in the bottom 10 Ex-Presidents. Habitat for humanity is his sole accomplishment and that's quite a social project, but one that's done some good.

not only was he the worst president in history, he had the unmitigated gaul to blame Americans for his failures in his 'great' malaise speech. he should have that Nobel prize ripped from his hands.
