There sinking algae tablets you can get at the pet store. They also eat shrimp pellets, because they do eat more than just algae in their natural diet - they eat shrimp and other crustaceans as well. Some also like a piece of driftwood in the tank to nibble at.
The will also eat slices of zucchini, cucumber, green or lima beans, peas, and shredded carrots. It helps if you eith cook or freeze the veggies a bit first to soften them, and the lima beans and peas can have the outer skins removed.

You should be able to find algae wafers at the pet store. You can buy many sizes, depending on the size of your algae-eater. Also keep in mind that they eat the algae off the tank glass (thus the name, lol) But I feed my algae eater the wafers. Catfish like them, too.

Algae eaters, obviously, eat algae, but will also eat fish flakes that fall to the bottom, if they like them.
If there is no algae on the sides of your tank, you can go to the pet store, and they should have algae tabs (or whatever they are, they look like little green circles) that you can drop into the tank for them.

algae?
Generally, if you have a well established tank, you dont need to feed it. It will clean the tank and be fine. If you are worried about it though, you can buy Algae flakes or wafers. Be careful not to give to many though because the fish eat them too. I usually just put 2 or 3 little wafers in my tank twice a week. They are scavengers and will eat pretty much anything that is on the bottom of the tank.
