I too run it behind other stitches. Do be careful if using a light colored fabric not to run dark thread under light stitches as it might show through.

You never tie knots in embroidery. When you finish the length, you slip it under a few stitches on the backside until you feel it's secure. If you are just starting the piece, I pull a couple of inches of floss from the top of the work and make sure my beginning row of stitches cover up the end of that piece underneath. When that's done, you can cut that length off after you have secured the end of your floss by slipping it underneath the finished stitches as outlined above. Hope this helps you.

I never tie knots in embroidery. I work he last bit of thread back through the stitches that have been completed. This secures it in place. (do this about 2" back , then cut your thread )

I also never knot my embroidery. It really does hold if you slip your thread until other stitches. I particularly like to slide under a thicker area of satin stitching, if I can.

knots will show through to the front when matted and framed. Always take the excess thread and work it behind the stitches

you should only knot your work if the item is to be woren and washed. You should just run the thread in the back of your work and hide the ends in the back side .
hope this made sense

you don't; as you stitch catch the tail end of the thread.
