I am 15 weeks pregnant. I know the best way to know is to see my doctor, but I can't until Monday and would like to know if anyone has experienced the same thing I am going through? I have had this weird feeling like something has been stuck in the back of my throat for the last 2 days, so I looked in the mirror and say my right tonsil enlarged and it has white pus on it. It doesn't hurt, but I looked at pictures online and it seems to be bacterial tonsilitis. I, also, read that doctors prescribe anitbiotics for this, but I have found nothing on what they do for pregnant women, and I would like to know if my baby is in any danger if I have to wait until Monday to see my doctor or if I should go to the E.R.? I am in no pain, but it's pretty annoying! What do you think they might do for me since I am pregnant?

I have had tonsillitis and strep throat many times. For me, it always hurts a lot! I had tonsillitis several times while pregnant and was given amoxicillen and Zithromax. There are several safe antibiotics you can take while pregnant. Your baby is not at risk if you wait until Monday to go to the doctor, but you may feel better calling the answering service and asking to speak with the doctor on call. They can give you more accurate information, but I doubt they will see a need to go to the ER. They may even be able to prescribe an antibiotic now so you can begin to feel better and have you come in on Monday. What I find works the best for strep and tonsillitis is gargling with salt water. I like to use hot water. You can gargle as often as you want. Also, drinking hot liquids such as decaffeinated herbal tea or chicken noodle soup will help. You can take Tylenol if there is any pain.

You'll have to have antibiotics to cure the infection, there are several safe in pregnancy. If you don't, speaking from expierence, it will only get worse, become unable to respond to antibiotics, & you'll eventually have to have your tonsils out. This happened to me when I was 21. Sorry you feel bad, at at least annoyed by it, but this isn't worth an ER trip at all. I would have lived in the ER if I went everything they showed up. What you can do, altough it's gross, is apply a bit of pressure on your tonsil near the spot, this will remove the little stone. My ENT told me to do this while I was being treated. Wait until you see your doctor Monday & let them know & insist on medication. Even if you aren't having pain, you will eventually & if you let it go too long, you'll always have problems. Good luck.

Yes you can take antibotics during pregnancy but of course it must be prescribed by your doctor. If the pain is really bad to the point where you can't swallow then yes go to the ER. Your 15 weeks and its ok to take Tyenol nothing else though. You can also gargle with warm water and salt. You can also call your doc and he might suggest something else. Good luck

I had it at the beginning of my pregnancy and they hgave me amoxicillin. I read online that amoxicillin is safe for preg people. Also, they gave me some other drugs to go with it but I read about them and decided not to take them. Make sure you take all the amoxicillin even if you feel better. There should be a clinic around you that is open on Sundays. I would wait it out-I actually think I realized I had it on a Sunday and waited till Monday morning to go in. good luck and the amoxicillin took about 2 days and I was feeling better.

When it comes to antibiotics for someone who's pregnant, your doctor has to weigh the risks to your baby against the risks to you if you do NOT take them. With those things in mind, they may or may not prescribe them for you. If it's a severe infection, then chances are good that they will. If it's something they think your body can deal with on its own, then unfortuatnely you'll probably have to ride it out without antibiotics.

I don't think your baby is in harms way at all. If you feel fine you could wait until Monday. Or, if you're feeling ill, or if your having a hard time eating and swallowing see a Dr. sooner.
You will be given an anitbotic and this should take care of your infection.

they normally limit antibiotics for pregnant women. it all depends on the severity of the infection. if you can wait it out till monday, go see your own doctor, who will know you best. if not go to a ready care clinic or the er. if needed they will give low doses of antibiotics. good luck
